During the period of COVID movement restrictions we spent a lot of time walking on Hampstead Heath. Through Spring and Summer, wildflowers filled the meadows, filled us with joy and gratitude and I knew I had to paint them. These paintings are collaged on painted book paper. I love the quirkiness that these papers bring to the paintings. I have used various Japanese papers collected over the years to collage the flowers.
A bunch of daffodils always brighten up a room. I have let the book paper peep through these collages. It brings a sense of playfulness into the composition, after all a serious bunch of daffodils can’t be relied upon to cheer up a room, can it?
